Personal History Kinmont grew up on his family home, Liddesdale horse ranch on Persephone, mostly ignored by his parents who were killed whilst on a holiday when he was nineteen. He spent a good deal of time at the neighboring Buccleuch estate, with Walter Buccleuch who was like an older brother or father figure.

The Unification War did not start in a moment of spontaneous combustion. Conflict brewed for decades prior. Kinmont became interested in the plight of the outer planets as an idealistic young man, fresh out of university, and utilized his considerable persuasive charm to lobby government officials for fairer treatment of outlying settlements. He met and fell in love with a companion, Siobhan Graham, who recruited him into a spy network for the organization that eventually evolved into the Independents.

In 2488 Kinmont and Siobhan married and took up residence at Liddesdale ranch on Persephone. Siobhan renounced her Guild license and the two of them settled into high society, gathering what intelligence and secrets they could to pass on. Kindra was born two years later in 2490, the best day of Kinmont's life.

Margaret told Kindra that her father convinced her mother to quit the guild, then he got bored and left them when she was three. In fact, Kinmont disappeared from her life only because he believed that leaving them with Walter and Margaret was the best way to keep them safe.

In the last years leading to the Unification war, Kinmont was a spy for the Independence. He and Siobhan had regular clandestine encounters but visiting Kindra would have put all of them in danger. Especially because Margaret and Jim Buccleuch were loyal to the Alliance.

After the war began and Kindra was safely in school at Madrassa, Siobhan exploited Alliance contacts for intelligence she passed on to her husband. In 2510, a meeting between Siobhan and Kinmont at Liddesdale Ranch was abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Jim Buccleuch and a squad of Alliance soldiers. Siobhan convinced Kinmont to escape on her horse, confident James wouldn't hurt her, but she was wrong. James murdered Siobhan, and Kinmont immersed himself in the war, continuing to operate as a spy even after the Independence lost.

Kinmont has kept tabs on Kindra since she last saw him when she was three, but has not interacted with her since then. He tells himself he has been protecting her, but it’s more complicated than that.
Service Record William Armstrong Alias:

Kinmont will arrive at the Fortune's Echo on Three Hills, just after Kindra leaves for a client appointment. He will identify himself as a traveling salesman, with two large shipping crates, wanting to leave Three Hills with no particular timetable, and no solid destination. Obviously a bit sketchy, but a paying customer with no outstanding warrants. First chance he gets, he will search Kindra's shuttle, where he could possibly get caught by someone and out himself as her father.
